What You Can Do (Permitted Activities) With this visa you can

You cannot:

Work (paid or unpaid).

Extend your stay beyond six months, except in limited cases (e.g., medical treatment or academic reasons).

Visa Duration & Multiple Entries

Typically valid for up to 6 months, but you may apply for a long‑term visitor visa lasting 2, 5, or 10 years, allowing multiple visits—each up to six months.

Electronic Travel Authorisation (ETA)

Visa-exempt travellers—including those from Europe (EU, EEA and S witzerland, except Irish citizens), the USA, Canada, Australia, and certain other countries—must now obtain an ETA before entering the UK.

Key Facts:

The ETA costs £16.
It is valid for multiple entries over two years or until your passport expires.
Each visit can last up to six months.

British and Irish citizens, and those with valid UK visas or residency permission, are exempt.
